1.DROPPING OFF AND PICKING UP

Below are this year’s drop-off and pick-up locations and procedures. Our number one priority is SAFETY for ALL! Traffic is a big challenge, and we ask that you please comply with our pick-up and drop-off procedures. While the rules are explicit and direct, please know the heartfelt intention is to keep our children safe.

Parking:

  • Visitor parking is available in the front parking lot in unmarked spaces.
  • The Cherry Blossom parking lot is reserved for staff parking only to help reduce drop-off and pick-up congestion. Those spaces are designated for staff members and should not be used. Thank you.
  • Overflow parking is also available in the Shir Hadash parking lot. The agreement with our neighbors at Shir Hadash requires that we not use their parking lot on Friday evenings, weekends, and Jewish high holidays.

Blossom Hill Road Main Campus Entrance:

  • During school hours there will be only one crosswalk available to students and their families from the Manor to Blossom Hill. Students are to cross where the crossing guard is located.   That cross- walk will lead students directly to the sidewalk that runs along the inside parking lot and curves around to the front entrance.
  • Staff members will be monitoring the front Drop-off/Pick-up area. Please drive SLOWLY when dropping off your children and extend courtesy to our staff members helping to ensure the safety of your children.
  • Walking through the parking lot and/or along Blossom Hill Road (and then cutting across the parking lot exit) will not be allowed. Students are to cross only in designated cross walks.
  • As you pull into the parking lot, the CHANNEL drive-through lane is for drop-off and pick-up only. We have a curbside lane for students to enter/exit cars and walk safely onto campus.   Please pull all the way forward to avoid a backup into the street.
  • Parents are to stay in their cars and not get out in order to keep traffic moving. We ask that you have backpacks, MUSICAL instruments, projects, etc., in the car with your child. They should be ready to hop out of the car as soon as you pull to the curb. Please do not put belongings in the trunk or back of a pick-up – this will hold up the line and cause a backup of cars in the parking lot.
  • Absolutely NO students are to be dropped off in the parking area and left to cross the parking lot by themselves. Please do not put your child at risk.
  • All cars are encouraged to exit RIGHT out of the parking lot and then take the loop up Short Road around to Shannon Road to get back to Cherry Blossom, Los Gatos Blvd. or Blossom Hill Road.

Cherry Blossom Drop Off/Pick Up

  • Please note that for security reasons, the Cherry Blossom Gate will remain locked during school hours and only open before/after school.
  • Staff members will be monitoring the Cherry Blossom Drop-off/Pick-up area before/after school. Please drive SLOWLY when dropping off your children and extend courtesy to our staff members helping to ensure the safety of your children.
  • There will be only one entrance and exit direction for drop off and pick-up before and after school. Parents should drive in the entrance nearest Clubhouse and continue to the drop-off lane along the school. Students should exit on the curbside of the drop-off lane and walk along the sidewalk to the designated entrance.
  • Walking through the parking lot will not be allowed.
  • Please do not double park or stop in traffic to let your child off in the road on Cherry Blossom. Parents may NOT drop children off on the opposite side of the street and/or use the Presbyterian Church for drop-off/pick-up, as there is no crosswalk access.
  • Walking and Bicycle Safety Reminder: As we start fresh with the new school year, we want to encourage families to enjoy the weather by walking or biking to school. However, it is important to also remind children of the common sense rules of safety regarding traveling to and from school. Please tell your children that they should never talk to or approach an individual they do not know. You may also want to revisit the strategies you want your children to employ if approached by someone he/she doesn’t recognize. It is also an opportunity to talk to your children about safety in general without frightening your children. It is important for all children to know how to respond and what to do to stay safe.
  • Bicycle Safety: Please take note of the bicycle rules below. Our bicycle rules are strict because we care about the safety of each child. Students in grades 3-5 must sign and return the attached Bicycle Contract. Remember that riding to school is a privilege. Those who choose to ride a bicycle to school must agree to abide by our safety rules as stated. A student may lose the privilege of riding a bicycle or scooter to school if the rules are not followed.   Parents can help by reporting any student observed endangering his/her safety or the safety of another student.

BICYCLE RULES

  • Students in Grades 3-5 may ride bikes/scooters to Blossom Hill School but must have signed parent permission to do so. (We highly recommend that students ride with an adult or with other students whenever possible.) Students younger than 3rd grade may ride to school only when accompanied by an adult.
  • Bike riders MUST wear safety helmets for their own protection when riding bikes to school.   This is a state law.
  • Use hand signals to let cars know which direction you’re turning. Straight-arm signals left; bent elbow signals right.
  • Bicycles MUST be walked through crosswalks, on sidewalks surrounding the school and inside the school grounds. This also applies to skateboards, scooters, and Heelys.
  • Bicycles will be parked and locked in the bicycle racks located on the playground. Standing around the bike rack area is not permitted. Lock your bike and leave the area immediately.
  • Pedestrians always have the right of way.   Students are expected to show respect and courtesy for pedestrians. Caution and care should be exercised when passing or sharing the sidewalks with others. Students may not block walkways with their bikes/scooters or ride recklessly in a way that endangers pedestrians or themselves.

2.   CAMPUS SECURITY
  • Once the school day begins, parents will only be able to enter the campus from the FRONT office. The gates along Cherry Blossom will be locked during school hours.
  • Parents must sign in at the front office if they wish to come on campus. No parents will be allowed in classrooms or on school grounds without an identification badge.
  • We do not allow phone calls or other interruptions to the classrooms. Should there be an urgent message that must get to your child, the school secretary will ensure this is delivered.
  • Children will not be permitted to leave the school grounds, unless they are picked up by a parent, guardian, or someone listed as an emergency contact on the student’s emergency card. No child will be released to anyone whose name is not on the emergency card. The adult picking up a student must sign them out in the front office and will be asked for identification.

3.   NO DOGS ON CAMPUS

For the safety of all, PLEASE LEAVE PETS AT HOME.   This request includes dogs that are on a leash and/or carried in the loving arms of their owners. We ask for your cooperation with this policy at all times.

7.   SCHOOL RULES

Here at Blossom Hill, we emphasize educating the whole child.   Good citizenship and character are life skills we want every student to learn and model. Your child will be bringing home the Blossom Hill School and Playground Rules for RESPECT on the first day of school. This will give teachers and school personnel the opportunity to review the rules with students. The staff has worked hard to institute school rules with an emphasis on respecting others. It will be highly important that you go over these rules with your child, as we will expect students to follow the school rules and be respectful citizens. When you have discussed the school rules with your child, have him/her sign and return the ‘signature insert’ to the classroom teacher by the end of the first week of school. Please keep a copy of the rules at home for reference.

8. CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS

Classroom assignments will be posted in the school office window at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

TK & Kindergarten:

  • Parents will receive a teacher notification letter the week prior to the start of the school year. In this letter, parents will be notified of their child’s teacher and AM/PM placement. We realize parents are anxious to make arrangements for childcare, however due to enrollment changes over the summer we are unable to announce class placement prior to this date.

  • AM/PM Preference: Please do not schedule your children in alternative programs before we send out the notification letters in August. We will not take parent requests for teacher and/or change in placement. Please do not request a meeting to ask for a change in class placement. Thank you.

Due to the complexities and the time it takes to build balanced classes, we do not take parent requests for teacher and/or change in placement.   Please do not request a meeting to ask for a change in class placement. Our experience is that students adjust to their new classmates and teacher quite well. We also believe that assumptions made about specific teachers are often misguided and/or student specific. Please know that our teachers are there to support and offer your child a positive, productive school year. If you have specific concerns about your child, we ask that you first address these concerns with the teacher. Placement changes are only made when required for enrollment adjustments.

9. BLOSSOM HILL PLAYGROUND

Our organized sports program will begin shortly after the start of school.

Volunteers are needed! If you’d like the opportunity to be “in the action” and have an hour to spare during the day, consider volunteering to help with noon activities! We’re looking for parent volunteers to monitor board games, oversee arts and crafts, as well as assist in the library and computer lab during lunch recess.

10. BLOSSOM HILL DRESS CODE

The responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and his or her parents.

  • We encourage students to wear clothing that is safe, comfortable, clean, and appropriate for school related activities. Student clothing must not disrupt the education or be disrespectful of any student or staff member.

  • Clothing must cover undergarments.

  • Sport or tennis shoes are most appropriate for running and playing during recess and P.E. All shoes should have closed toes and a back strap.

  • Hats may be worn outdoors only. Hats with bills (such as baseball caps) should be facing forward to shade the eyes from the sun.
