Mileage Club Begins

The program started in 1997 as Run Across America and was later renamed Mileage Club. To date, students have averaged 9,000+ miles per year or 189,000+ miles from 1997 to 2019.

Mileage Club is sponsored by the Blossom Hill Home & School Club and is slated to start on Monday, February 3rd and run through Friday, May 15th.

The purpose of the program is to provide an organized, “fitness based option” at lunch recess that adds to the yard games being played.

Mileage Club allows each child to set and achieve their own goals and it also teaches them to be responsible for maintaining their own cards and tokens.

All students in grades 1st-5th are automatically enrolled for this free program. Mileage Club operates five days a week and is coordinated by Mr. Lux and staffed by parent volunteers.

Students have the option to participate by bringing their Mileage Club cards to the starting line on the field and running, walking, or skipping (either individually or in groups) around a 1⁄4 mile marked course.

For each mile completed, students receive a colored toe token. For each card completed, they receive a special award token.

Students who complete and turn in card number six, will receive a marathon medal for completing 26.2 miles. For those who complete card number eleven (ultra-marathon, 55+ miles), they will receive the marathon medal and an ultra- marathon trophy. These awards are presented at an all school assembly in June. At the same assembly, awards are also presented for: Top Class, Top Girl Runner, and Top Boy Runner.
