Welcome Back-to-School

Welcome letter from Principal Reynolds

August 4, 2021

Dear Blossom Hill Families,

Welcome to the 2021/22 school year! My heart is filled with joy as I look forward to the upcoming year and all that it will bring.  The Blossom Hill staff and I are excited to return to our traditional schedule and the many opportunities it will provide to focus on in-person relationships with students and the chance to partner with you, as we continue our rigorous commitment to social and emotional development, academic excellence, and strong school traditions.

This is a pivotal year, as we implement the Strategic Plan to fulfill our LGUSD vision of preparing all children to thrive in a diverse and ever-changing world.  In addition, we will be addressing critical school funding issues such as the Parcel Tax and One Community Campaign. I will be sharing more information about both the Strategic Plan and funding initiatives in the weeks to come.

The first day of school is Thursday, August 12th.  The campus opens at 7:55 and school starts at 8:10. Kindergarten students may report to their classrooms ten minutes prior to the 8:10 or 11:00 start time.  For opening day, students in grades 1-5 will line-up on the blacktop behind the cone flying their classroom number at 8:10.  There will be staff to help new students get to where they should be. Their assigned teacher will meet them at the line and escort them to their new classroom. On the first day, we will be following the Regular Day Bell Schedule.

In keeping with the  California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines, all students and staff will wear masks when inside the building.  When outside, it is okay to be mask-free, if desired.  To limit the number of visitors on campus, students only will enter through the gates in the morning.  If a parent needs to enter the campus, they must check-in at the office.

It is a Blossom Hill TK/Kindergarten tradition to have a family picture taken on the first day of school.  Since parents will not be entering campus through the gates, the H&SC is hosting a photo opportunity at the bench outside the TK/Kindergarten gate.   More information will be included in the TK/Kindergarten class placement letter.

Wednesday, August 18th is the first Early Release Day(TK/Kindergarten Parents, please note that all TK/Kindergartners will attend the morning session on Early Release Days.)

Also, be sure to mark your calendar for Back-to-School Night on Thursday, August 19th. The schedule for the adults-only evening is listed on page 7 of the Parent CompanionPlease note, masks will be required when inside.  That school day is also an Early Release Day.

School safety continues to be our number #1 priority at Blossom Hill.  Over the past few years, the Safe Routes to School committee has worked hard to encourage the use of “People Power” when traveling to and from school.  To support our efforts, I strongly encourage you to model extra safe driving around all the schools in our community.  Please fill out the Blossom Hill Safe Routes to School Parent Driver Contract in the Welcome Packet.  It shows our children that we care about their safety – Cornerstone Asset #14: Parents and other adults model positive, responsible behavior.   Thank you.

Calendars and the bell schedule, along with other important information are included in the Welcome Packet.  Please be sure to review all information carefully.

Key to our school’s success is the One Community LG Campaign which is a collaborative effort between the Blossom Hill Home & School Club and Los Gatos Educational Foundation.  They are both vital organizations that support the education, wellness, and safety of our students.  Please review the broad spectrum of educational programs, family events, and teacher and staff support they provide in the attached packet.  There are opportunities for everyone to participate in our learning community!  By working together, we can ensure that your child receives the best education possible.

Finally, please join me in embracing our  2021-22 LGUSD theme ~ Be the Source of Someone's Joy.

If we all commit to creating joy and spreading kindness, we can strengthen our community and accomplish not only our goals, but unforeseen wonders.

I look forward to seeing you at Blossom Hill on Thursday, August 12th

Most sincerely,

Lisa Reynolds, Principal
